The immediate answer as to whether you can dry wet weed is yes. But there are important considerations to take first.

It’s a big yes if your weed just recently got wet. However, if it’s been wet for an unknown amount of time, you could be running the risk of it being moldy. And consuming moldy weed is far too risky to chance it.

Also, consider the source of the water. An accidental spill of clear water or, let’s say, bong water, is okay. If you’re trying to salvage weed that fell into a pool, on the other hand, forget about it.

The Best Ways to Dry Wet Weed

Once you’ve established that your weed isn’t moldy or soaked with pool chemicals (or whatever else), let’s first look at some ways to NOT dry your marijuana.

As benign as it might seem, laying your weed out in the sun is not a reliable way to dry it effectively. you also run the risk of converting the THC into CBN and thus changing the potency. (Although this could be a good thing if THC makes you anxious.)

If you’re tempted to use a blow dryer on a low setting, well, it might work. But only if you’re dealing with moistened buds on the smaller side. For bigger buds, the air won’t get in there enough to get the job done.

Finally, as convenient as your microwave may be for heating up a burrito, it is NOT the way to go about drying out weed. While the industry may irradiate weed to control bacteria, it’s not something you want to try yourself.

That said, here are four things you can do:

Pop It in the Oven

The quickest route is to try the oven – allowing your weed to get baked, as it were. This will decarboxylate your cannabis though, so once it’s done, it’ll be better suited for edibles or tinctures than smoking it.

Simply set the oven to 245°F. Then crush the weed and lay it out on a tray. Place the tray in the oven for 30-40 minutes until it’s dry. Then place it in a cool and dark place until it’s room temperature.

Immerse It in a Jar of Rice

A wet bud is not much different from a wet smartphone.

As such, you can fill a major jar halfway with rice, settle the bud into it, and then fill the jar the rest of the way up with rice. Don’t put a lid not the jar though. Place it in a dark and dry space for 24 – 48 hours.

If you have a fan or dehumidifier, you can point it at the jar to circulate the air. Once you remove the weed from the rice, it should be completely dry. If there’s any remaining moisture though, move on to step #3 below.

Wrap It in Paper Towels

Wrapping your wet weed in paper towels sounds simple enough. But you’ll definitely want a fan or a dehumidifier nearby for this one. What’s more, you’ll need to rotate the bud and change the paper every few hours to ward off mold growth. It typically takes 24 – 48 hours to get it back to dry and firm.

Add a Humidity Pack

Finally, if you’re your weed is just damp but not sopped, consider popping a humidity pack into your storage container. Then wait three days. The pack will help draw out moisture while adding moisture should the weed get too dried out in that time.

You Could Always Buy More

As cannabis lovers ourselves, we know what a drag it is to get your weed wet. And if you’re certain the cannabis hasn’t grown mold, then go ahead and try one of the above methods to dry wet weed.

But if you’re fortunate enough to live in a state where marijuana is legal and plentiful, you may be better off just buying more.

And if you’re a cannabis business owner looking to boost your presence in one of the legal states, then contact us today. With our expertise, we’ve got the know-how to get your business growing.

It’s safe to say we’ve all experienced nausea at one time or another. For most of us, it’s a temporary condition that can be treated antiemetics.

Of course, antiemetics don’t work for everyone. And for people who struggle with chronic nausea because of an illness or chemotherapy, life can feel pretty hopeless.

Fortunately, the latest research on cannabis and nausea points to marijuana as an effective treatment that bring relief in a short amount of time. Why is this?

The Interaction of Cannabis and Nausea

As we’ve discussed in past posts, every human has receptors that activate the body’s endocannabinoid system. When certain receptors are activated, it can increase or decrease specific neurotransmitters.

In the case of nausea, it’s the CB1 receptors found within the nerve known as the dorsal vagus complex. This is the nerve responsible that triggers vomiting and controls feelings of nausea. CB1 receptors also play a key role in slowing down digestion. All of these actions work together with the brain to prevent nausea.

And this isn’t just speculation. There’s a growing body of scientific evidence that backs this up. For example, a study from 2021 from the University of New Mexico found that cannabis flower and concentrates provided relief from nausea for 96% of the individuals who participated in the study. Furthermore, they disclosed a decrease in nausea severity by almost 4 points (on a scale from 0-10) within an hour of consuming it.

The Most Effective Cannabis Treatments for Nausea

While the findings show that the vast majority of patients found relief within a short amount of time, there seem to be some forms of cannabis that are more effective than others.

Cannabis flower and concentrates labeled as C. sativa or hybrid seem to provide the most effective relief. Joints appeared to provide more immediate relief than pipes of vaporizers. And products with a high THC to low CBD ratio offered the fastest relief.

Cannabis-Derived Medications

As cannabis marketing specialists, we’re overjoyed that so many states are finally legalizing marijuana. However, if you live in a state where even medical weed is still illegal, there are medications that are derived from the cannabis plant that could help.

Marinol is an FDA-approved oral capsule designed to treat cancer-related and HIV-related vomiting. Also FDA-approved, Cesamet contains synthetic cannabis and is noted for being more effective than traditional anti-nausea drugs. Though not FDA- approved, drugs like Nabiximols and Levontradol are both used for chemotherapy-related nausea and to stimulate appetite.

It should be noted that these four medications offer low to moderate benefits at best. Like so many other cannabis-related products out there, there continues to be a need for more studies and data on them. And until marijuana is not longer federally prohibited, these studies will be few and far between.

Feel Better!

We hope that you found this information on cannabis and nausea helpful for your own needs. It could be a game-changer for you.

Does THC leave you feeling chill and buzzed and content? If that’s the case, consider yourself lucky because THC makes some people anxious.

And as marijuana businesses flourish and cannabis becomes increasingly legal across the country, more and more people are partaking in the joys of cannabis. Meanwhile, folks trying to avoid THC because it makes them feel off are often regarded as weird.

They’re often told they’re “doing it wrong” or that it’s in their head. It’s definitely not.

THC Makes Some People Anxious

Some people who use marijuana have a bad reaction with unpleasant symptoms. These include increased anxiety, racing thoughts, elevated heart rate, and even panic attacks.

So while others around them who have imbibed are happy and relaxed, they’re feeling an overwhelming excess of energy and sometimes a sense of terror. They want to seek out a quiet and dark place and require a calm friend to be with them.

What Happens With a Panic Attack?

Panic attacks are not life-threatening. But they certainly feel that way. And for people who aren’t familiar with them or who have never had one, the sheer terrifying feeling can land them in the emergency room.

Being overcome with dizziness, sweating, dry mouth, and elevated heart rate leaves sufferers certain that they’re about to collapse or die. These panic attacks can last anywhere from five to thirty minutes. And they can come in waves.

Those who struggle with panic attacks are encouraged to exercise, eat well, practice breathing to regulate themselves, and refrain from alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine. Because of its ‘peaceful’ reputation, cannabis doesn’t make the list. It should though.

So What’s the Deal?

Giving a definitive answer is where it gets a little cloudy.

Sometimes it’s the chicken and egg argument. Many people turn to marijuana and cannabis because they already struggle with anxiety and panic disorders. They hope that it will alleviate their symptoms.

For some people, it does just that. But over time, they can become problem users and take increasingly higher doses. And the more THC in the system, the higher risk of anxiety and panic.

The recommended dosage of THC to lessen the risk of anxiety is in the 7.5 – 12.5mg range. So by paying attention to the lower dosage and using more sedative strains, some people who struggle with anxiety can actually find relief using cannabis.

They also know to avoid vaporizing cannabis which is the most likely to create anxiety because none of the drug is lost in smoke. In addition, because levels of citicoline (known to regulate anxiety and mood) temporarily decrease because of marijuana, taking citicoline supplements can help.

But these precautions don’t work for everyone.

For Some, THC Is Just Trouble

There are people for whom any amount of THC is problematic. They can have even just a minimal amount of THC is their bodies before the anxiety and paranoia kick in though.

No matter how many times they try to get that special cannabis high, it remains illusive. Because at the end of they day, a person’s response to THC depends on many factors such a genetics, gender, age, other medications and previous use. A person’s reaction to THC can even change from day to day.

So for those people, avoiding THC is just the wisest route.

If you regularly partake in cannabis but are noticing a little extra padding on your body, you might be wondering how to beat the marijuana munchies.

This can be a particular drag if you’re consuming cannabis for medicinal purposes. Sure, your pain might be subdued, but you may also feel compelled to eat an entire bag of Doritos.

Even if you use the herb for enjoyment, the munchies could be undermining some of your lifestyle goals. Suffice it to say, cannabis and weight control have a tricky relationship.

Ways to Beat the Marijuana Munchies

The marijuana munchies are in your head. Literally. Cannabis can scramble your brain’s signals and convince you that Taco Bell is a great idea – even if you had a healthy meal just an hour ago.

So while inducing hunger is of tremendous value for folks struggling with nausea, it can be problematic for people trying to lose weight.

What’s a person to do? Consider the following:

Swap Your Strain for Another

This is the easiest solution, though it may not be the most desirable. After all, you might really dig your current strain. Switching to another would feel like betraying a friend who’s been good to you.

If you want to try another strain, however, look for those that are higher in THCV and CBD. The budtender at your favorite dispensary can help you.

Do a Pre-Toke Calorie Burn

This is just another way of saying you can exercise before you partake. It’s a preemptive measure. If you know you’re going to end up raiding the snack cupboard, then plan to burn enough calories beforehand to compensate.

Revel in the Minty Freshness

You already know that when you’re high, everything tastes more intense than when you’re not. Where one chocolate chip cookie might normally suffice, you suddenly want three or four.

You can arm yourself with toothpaste and mouthwash though. Sounds weird, right? But if you brush your teeth or rinse out your mouth with mouthwash when those cravings hit, you’ll be loving the minty flavor in your mouth with that same elevated intensity.

What’s more, whatever you eat after you’ve “mintified” your mouth isn’t going to taste that great.

Stay Busy

The temptation to mindlessly munch is exacerbated by inactivity. Of course, that’s the conundrum. Sometimes you consume so you can just chill.

We’re not talking about running a marathon though. When the brain erroneously tells you that you’re hungry, you can counter it by playing a video game, drawing, playing an instrument, gardening, whatever moves you. Just be sure it’s safe to do while you’re soaring.

Work With the Munchies Rather Than Against Them

Maybe you love the eating aspect of partaking and you don’t really want to give it up. If that’s the case, find a way to take advantage of the munchies. You can start by replacing junk food snacks in your house for healthier options. There are plenty of them out there.

Also, when your brain is buzzing and telling you that you’re hungry, consider offering your body some veggies. A kale and spinach frittata might rock your world while you’re high. It may even motivate you to eat healthier when you’re not!

Go figure.

No Need to Stress

At the end of the day, your efforts to beat the marijuana munchies don’t have to be all-consuming. Give a few of the above recommendations a try.

You might be surprised.

With January 1st right around the corner, many of us create a list of new year’s resolutions. If a THC detox is on that list for you, you may be wondering the best route.

While there are plenty of products that claim to quickly flush THC from your system, your best bet is to detox weed naturally. Not only is it the most effective way but the steps involved lend to better overall health.

So it’s two gifts in one.

How to Detox THC Naturally

For all the good that THC does, sometimes the body just needs a break.

So whether you’re clearing your system to reset, or you have an upcoming drug test, it’s important to understand that it will take about six weeks to become fully THC-free. Given that the steps to detoxing naturally will also boost better health, many of the following steps may be habits you incorporate into your daily life.

So without further ado…

Stop Using THC

We really hope this goes without saying. But to get THC completely out of your system, you can’t merely cut back on cannabis consumption. While yes, you may ease into clearing it out of your system by cutting back on the tokes or gummies, eventually you have to stop consuming it altogether.

Shift Your Diet

Detox is going to be more effective if you’re not retaining water. Unfortunately, foods high in delicious ingredients such as sugar, fat, and sodium do just that. Having just come off the holiday festivities, you may be keenly aware of that right now.

They also slow your metabolism. And THC metabolites can’t be shed if you’re dragging around, heavy with water. What will help though is a diet that’s rich in hydrating foods like fruits, veggies, lean meats, and leafy greens. In fact, greens can increase your metabolism and help to flush out your system faster. So if you’ve never had good relations with spinach and kale, it may be time to change your perspective.

Be sure to add in some fiber too. The best sources are beans, peanuts, legumes, and whole grains. These are classic detox foods that will also help to stabilize your mood and lend to better sleep. (This is especially key if you’re currently using THC to help you sleep.)

Hydrate

When you think of the words ‘cleansing’ and ‘flushing’, doesn’t water immediately come to mind? (Yes.) So it makes sense that drinking plenty of water is going to help you do just that. Staying hydrated is also going to promote better organ function and boost your immunity – which is no small task these days.

Plain water isn’t the only source of hydration. You can swap out some water for herbal teas. Okay, it’s not exactly a café mocha or whiskey sour. But if you opt for teas with tons of antioxidants or with liver-cleansing properties, you’ll get some flavor along with added benefits.

Get Moving

Getting up off the couch in these cold, dark months to exercise can feel punitive. Especially when there’s a perfectly good bag of chips or cookies nearby. But since our bodies store THC in fat cells, decreasing them means expedited detoxing. And that means cutting calories and exercising.

Once you get past the stultifying weight of procrastination and into the gym or studio, your body will gift you with anandamide – the natural endocannabinoid it produces. Production increases during exercise and it’s the source of the ‘runner’s high.’

Be Kind to Yourself

Being kind to ourselves sounds like it should be so much easier than it is. And if this is already a difficult task for you, it’s important to understand that detox can exacerbate negative emotions. Knowing this going in can help you to prepare by carving out requisite time for yourself.

As mentioned above, exercise helps. If you’ve wanted to explore meditation, this could be a good time. Schedule some relaxing baths, time with friends, walks in nature, strumming your guitar, or whatever activities you enjoy.

The habits you form during your time of detoxing may just become regular ones that you’ll carry long after detoxing. How cool is that?

Happy New Year!

If you’re choosing to detox THC naturally this year, we wish you the best of luck. Sometimes a little reset is what you need.

That said, if you’re a cannabis business owner looking to reset your marketing and public relations goals this year, contact us today.

We have nearly a decade of experience and will put your positive exposure at the top of our resolutions list.

Breathwork is one of the most therapeutic things you can do. In the vast majority of situations, breathing is always available and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Meanwhile, cannabis is also therapeutic. And in many ways, it can foster breathwork. So it makes sense that combining cannabis and breathwork would result in a wholly therapeutic outcome. Wouldn’t it?

Well, sometimes. We’ll take a look.

The Magic of Breathwork

If you’ve ever done yoga, Pilates, or marital arts, you’re probably already familiar with breathwork. Breathwork is comprised of exercises that teach practitioners how to consciously control the breath and use it as a tool.

There are many popular techniques employed through different practices. What they all have in common though is shifting the focus inward. These breathing exercises can help calm the mind for those struggling with stress, insomnia, PTSD, anxiety, and even pain. Intentional breathwork can also enhance cognitive functioning and help to empower the immune system.

As a regular practice, breathwork delivers some pretty effective longterm benefits such as lowering depression and anxiety, improving sleep, lowering blood pressure, and even reducing cravings for tobacco.

These are a lot of the same reasons people use cannabis.

The Influence of Cannabis on Breathing

Breathwork is also referred to as mindful breathing. And it’s crucial in regulating the nervous system and keeping the endocannabinoid system in balance. But how does using CBD and/or THC affect the way we breathe?

For starters, the anxiety-easing properties of CBD can help people breathe more deeply and relax. This, in turn, enables them to get more from their breathwork practice.

Similarly, THC can activate cannabinoid receptors in the lungs and relax the bronchial muscles. This improves breathing. (It should be noted, however, that smoking marijuana on a long-term basis can have the opposite effect.)

Thus, combining THC and CBD with conscious breathwork could go the distance in enhancing each of them. But then again…

Bringing Together Cannabis and Breathwork

As usual, there isn’t much (i.e. almost none) research on this particular topic. And anecdotal experiences are all over the charts. That’s because each person experiences cannabis AND breathwork in their own unique ways.

For some, cannabis affects breathwork in the way we mentioned above. It inhibits the chattering mind and offers up a deeper somatic experience with fewer distractions.

Yet for others, bringing together cannabis and breathwork can be likened to a psychedelic journey. Done mindfully and in the right way, this could be a desired effect. On the other hand, it could end up being too intense an experience.

It’s important to remember that breathwork can impart uncomfortable physiological effects like dizziness, excitability, or lightheadedness. As such, it may not take as much cannabis to get the same effects. So striking the right balance of breathwork, cannabis dosage, set and setting can take some work.

At this point, those who’ve experimented with combining marijuana and breathwork recommend consuming cannabis by other means than smoking. Starting with a small dosage through vaporizers, tinctures, or edibles is most advisable.

Just because we’re expert cannabis marketing specialists, that doesn’t mean we sit in the office all summer long. For some of us, a day at the beach, hiking, or even camping are on the menu.

As such, we’ve gotten pretty savvy in knowing the best ways for enjoying weed in the great outdoors.

So if you’re also an outdoor enthusiast and weed smoker, you should be aware that there are a myriad of products made just for you.

Enjoying Weed in the Great Outdoors

Kicking back and enjoying cannabis is a great way to feel even more connected with nature.

If you’re more of a toker than an edibles-lover though, you’ll want to consider the following products that are both useful and Earth-friendly.

Lighter Leash

If you love taking your smoking on the road but have never heard of a lighter leash, it’s time you did.

A lighter leash is nothing more than a lighter that hooks to you or your bag so that you always know where it is. Not only is great for a quick grab when you’re toking, but it’ll also come in handy for various camping needs.

Plus, by keeping your lighter with you, there’s no chance it’ll end up in the hands of a child or an arsonist looking to make the 6pm news.

Pocket Ashtray

Don’t you love coming across butts when you’re out in nature, setting up camp, or walking on trails? Of course you don’t. And don’t think for a second that a joint butt is better than one from a cigarette.

Not only do they detract from the beauty of nature, but they’re also a fire hazard. (That arsonist is keeping an eye on you.) So what should you do instead? Stock up on pocket ashtrays. These little smell-proof and storable pouches are a great way to stash your cannabis remnants so you can properly dispose of them once you get home.

Waterproof Cannabis Bag

Even if you’re not a river or lakeside enthusiast, it never hurts to have a waterproof weed bag. Especially if you’re planning a long hike or a few days in the woods. Nothing like a heavy rain to put a damper on your pot party.

You’ll want one with multiple compartments where you can store different strains, if you’re into that kind of thing. And if not, then you can drop some edibles or concentrates in there. Whatever the case, you can’t go wrong with a waterproof bag.

Wooden Pipe

No outdoor smoking kit is complete without a good wooden pipe. Sure, they come in all sorts of designs and styles to fit your aesthetic preferences. And many have swivel lids so you can keep your flower packed and ready to go.

But they’re also eco-friendly. Ya know. Because they’re made of wood.

Keychain Grinder

Another thing you could put in your waterproof bag is a full-sized grinder for your weed. But who wants to do that? Especially if you’re only going on a day trip to the beach or a park.

Fortunately, someone with a truly brilliant mind (an/or some time on their hands) invented the keychain grinder. It’s small, lightweight, attaches to your keychain, and gets the job done when you just need a little on the go.

Plus, it’ll render grinding your weed before you go unnecessary so you can enjoy more time having a good time. And isn’t that what it’s all about?

Are Your Marketing Needs Met?

Yeah, sure. Having a good time IS what it’s all about when enjoying weed in the great outdoors.

But if you have a cannabis business, you know it isn’t all fun and games. And you need professionals on your side if you want to succeed in this highly competitive industry.

So if you’re not getting the exposure you need, then contact us today. We believe in the power of cannabis and have been in the marketing and public relations game for a long time. Let us help.

The cannabis industry is booming. And over the next three years, it’s predicted to grow by 300%. So where are the cannabis lounges?

If you live in a community that opted to allow the sale of cannabis, you’ve probably noticed there’s no shortage of dispensaries. Yet, in most states, it’s understood that you don’t open the product until you’re at least out of the store. The message – no consumption allowed.

It looks like that’s already changing though.

What Are Cannabis Lounges?

It’s pretty clear-cut.

Cannabis lounge are cannabis-friendly spaces where folks can consume without the fear of being arrested. They’re like the bars of marijuana – a place to be social and connect with other people who enjoy partaking in the leaf and all its wonders.

Right now, cannabis lounges are few and far between. But don’t be surprised if in a year or two, they become more commonplace. Among those that do exist, some also serve edibles and offer infused products like oils and creams too. There are even those with a full restaurant kitchen so guests can chill a bit longer and enhance the whole experience.

They’re mostly in Colorado and California, though entrepreneurs have their attention focused on Las Vegas-based Planet 13 and what they’re doing there.

Behold, Las Vegas

With its lights, noise, distractions, and 24-hour non-stop action, Las Vegas is a city with so many offerings it’s overwhelming. Even so, Planet 13 has become a major destination spot there.

Picture a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory experience minus the Oompa Loompas. Along with being allowed to consume cannabis on the premises, there are production windows where customers can view beverages and edibles being produced, as well as magnetic walls with products in rotating cylinders to deliver the entire 360-degree experience. With video walls and sound systems galore, tourists flock to this flagship lounge.

But at the end of the day, it’s a safe space for like-minded cannabis consumers to enjoy themselves.

Cannabis Lounges in Michigan?

Michigan is a hot-bed of the industry. Sales hit $984.6 million in 2020, and those numbers are expected to keep rising. With a projected $3 billion per year in retail sales, Michigan may well be considered the second largest market in the country.

Add in the wonder of the Great Lakes, there are countless opportunities for cannabis tourism. And that means there’s a serious need for social consumption lounges.

In legalese, the state of Michigan refers to cannabis lounges as Designated Consumption Establishments, or DCEs. These coffee shop type settings are permitted in the state, but require a special license.

At the time of publication of this post, no license has been issued in Michigan. Yet. Most folks in the industry suspect that this has to do with the pandemic which continues to rage on. Aside from the sheer work of opening any business in these times, the concept of having a place for people to gather and to smoke amidst a prevalent respiratory disease just isn’t the best business model for now.

But the industry is hopeful.

And with more retail establishments and small-scale marijuana facilities popping up each day, it’s likely they’ll want to add a consumption establishment license. So stay tuned!

For now, at least.

In case you’re not familiar, Judy Pontius is the grandmother in Ypsilanti Township who’s been facing possible jail time for growing what the township deems as too many plants. We wrote about her predicament a few weeks ago.

As of a hearing this past Wednesday, Pontius is permitted to keep her plants until she’s required to appear at an evidentiary trial.

The Trouble With Ypsilanti Township

The fact is, Michigan Medical Marijuana laws permit caregivers to grow up to 72 plants. And with over 60 but fewer than 70 plants, Judy Pontius is undisputedly within the legal limits.

However, Ypsilanti Township was the first municipality in the entire state to force its caregivers to grow only in an Industrial Zone. As such, no grow operations are permitted in homes with more than 12 plants.

Frustrated by the unfairness of the situation, 20 people gathered in front of the Washtenaw County Courthouse to show support for Pontius and her refusal to comply with the township’s ordinance. Pontius and her attorney, Barton Morris Jr., made an appearance at the demonstration before leaving for the hearing which they attended via Zoom from a nearby dispensary.

How It Has Played Out So Far

The dispute between Pontius and the township is nothing new. It dates back to 2016. Back then, Circuit Judge Carol Kuhnke initially ruled in Pontius’ favor. So too did the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Ypsilanti Township, however, took it to the state Supreme Court in April of 2020 – saying that municipalities are permitted to determine where cannabis grow operations are located. From there, they created an ordinance stating that grow operations larger than 12 plants have to be located in a light industrial zone. At that point, Judge Kuhnke had to issue an order demanding that Pontius remove about 62 plants from the home by June 21. Pontius refused to comply.

Pontius Is Permitted to Keep Her Plants Until Trial

Pontius isn’t looking for exclusive treatment. She just wanted to continue growing her plants until her patients were able to find a new source for their medicine.

Even so, at Wednesday’s hearing, Dennis McLain, representing Ypsilanti Township, asked that Pontius be held in contempt of court. She is expected to remove all but 12 of her plants.

Morris told Kuhnke during the hearing that was scheduled because of her defiance that his client has a right to own 55 marijuana plants since she is no longer a caregiver. Instead, they are her personal plants.

Meanwhile, township counsel introduced an affidavit from neighbors complaining about the odor. They also claimed, fallaciously, that Pontius no longer lives in the place where she’s growing – assertions that Morris rebuffed.

He says that municipalities like Ypsilanti Township are objecting to grow operations in residential areas because more than twelve plants is a nuisance to the neighbors.

“We have to get the state legislators to step up and do something about this because (caregivers) are under attack,” he said. As such, Morris has also urged the Michigan legislature to get involved and amend the law to help settle this issue.

So What’s Next?

Obviously, we’re cannabis marketing experts, not soothsayers. We certainly hope that Pontius is permitted to keep her plants though.

It all depends on what happens with Pontius and Morris at the evidentiary trial, so keep your fingers crossed and remember to check back with us for the latest!

Is all of this isolation and solitude starting to get to you?

What can we do? This act of social responsibility may feel punitive but it’s a necessary evil right now.

Saddle up, y’all. We’re in for even more. Today, Michigan passed a shelter in place order that will close everything deemed non-essential.

And if you’re a cannabis enthusiast, you’re probably wondering, is cannabis considered essential in Michigan?

For those who rely on medical marijuana to ease their symptoms, the answer is a definitive yes.

The Path of COVID-19 through Michigan’s Cannabis Industry

In the past couple of weeks, people here in Michigan have been stock-piling marijuana just in case the state went into lockdown.

This was a boon for dispensaries and other businesses that saw a serious uptick in sales.

Then last week, the governor started placing restrictions on what could be open. Dispensaries still made the cut, but they started curbside pickup, limited the number of people inside their stores at one time, and imposed stricter sanitary standards to protect medical users.

But what does today’s order mean for cannabis businesses?

Is Marijuana Deemed Essential?

Last week, dispensaries appealed to Gov. Whitmer to deem cannabis an “essential” so that they won’t have to shut down.

In their letter, they called on the governor to give doctors permission to “evaluate patients and write recommendations for both new medical marijuana patients and renewing patients using telecommunications.”

They believe continued access to cannabis during this time is pertinent and should therefore be considered essential. Especially given the fact that patients with chronic pain or seizures, as well as pediatric patients, have reduced or even replaced pharmaceuticals (such as opiates) with medical marijuana.

As marketing and public relations experts in the cannabis industry, we were predicting that – at the very least – medical marijuana patients would still have access to their medicine.

We were pleased when we heard the governor’s final decision.

So Is Cannabis Considered Essential in Michigan?

The answer is yes. Dispensaries will be permitted to continue their curbside operations for BOTH medical and recreational marijuana.

Among those singing their praises to the governor for this decision is Jerry Millen of the Greenhouse in Walled Lake.

“Governor Whitmer is doing a great job caring for people throughout the state of Michigan,” said Millen. “Giving medical marijuana patients and others the opportunity to continue obtaining various cannabis products for their needs is so very important. On behalf of all of my patients and other customers, we owe her a great deal of gratitude during this difficult time for all of Michigan’s residents.”

Although the law goes into effect at midnight tonight, you can begin ordering today at greenhousemi.com. The entire back parking lot at the facility will be converted into an area for pick up.

The Greenhouse is open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 8pm, and Sunday 10am to 6pm.

Thank You, Governor Whitmer

We’re also grateful that the governor responded to the question, is cannabis considered essential in Michigan with a resounding yes.

After all, not only do medical users rely on it as their medicine, but many casual consumers use it to help them sleep and/or manage their anxiety.

And right now, we can use all the help we can get.
