Legal cannabis sales topped $12 billion last year. And they’re expected to top $30 billion annually within the next four years.

That’s certainly nothing to sneeze at.

Given marijuana’s wild popularity, it seems folks would be champing at the bit to work in the industry. So why is the Greenhouse offering bounty to new hires?

What’s Going on Here?

When owner Jerry Millen opened the dispensary doors to the Greenhouse of Walled Lake, he never dreamed he’d have challenges attracting and hiring new employees for his dispensary.

And like most of us, he also never imagined the country would face a pandemic.

Part of the issue is that cannabis businesses were placed in the category of essential businesses during the challenging year of 2020. That meant that unlike other industries that faced closing down, they were able to stay open and operational.

In addition, the stress around the pandemic drove up marijuana sales for those seeking some relief from what was being dubbed “the new normal.”

Companies like the Greenhouse that were in strong financial shape heading into the pandemic found themselves scrambling to hire additional workers in response to this robust demand for products.

Sounds Like the Perfect Situation, Right?

Nothing is perfect though.

While it was a blessing to be able to stay open while other businesses were going under, there were unique challenges that came with operating in the midst of a pandemic.

One was the fear of transmitting or spreading the potentially deadly virus. During the darkest days of the pandemic, provisioning centers were offering only curbside and delivery to keep people safe. Yet, many people were cautious to remain in their “social pods” and didn’t venture from them.

The second challenge was the ability of workers to collect unemployment. Again, while this has been a godsend for many who were and are trying to pay their bills, it has made it a challenge for businesses such as the Greenhouse who need able bodies back on the premises.

As jobless claims are on the increase, finding qualified workers continues to be a challenge. And Millen needs 20 qualified men and women into his store ASAP.

So Millen has come up with a solution.

Greenhouse Offering Bounty to New Hires

The preponderance of circumstances has left Millen’s stock rooms overflowing with product and not nearly enough employees to handle it.

So he is offering to pay a bounty of one ounce of cannabis (valued at $500) to new budtenders and other employees hired in the next 60 days.

This is on top of a competitive hourly wage.

“We need men and women who want to work in a great environment and be a part of one of Michigan’s fastest growing industries,” says Millen. “The Greenhouse of Walled Lake provides a great wage and an outstanding, fun work atmosphere. That’s why I am willing to pay this bounty to get the best people possible.”

How’s that for incentive?

Think You Might Be a Good Fit for the Greenhouse?

With the Greenhouse offering bounty to new hires, this could be the perfect time to get in (or BACK in) to the cannabis industry.

The Greenhouse of Walled Lake was Oakland County’s first fully licensed medical and recreational marijuana dispensary.

The Greenhouse’s focus on community has always been a driving force for owner Jerry Millen. And he and his staff are dedicated to ensuring that customers and patients receive the utmost guidance when it comes to selecting the right products for them whether for a health condition, relaxation, or just plain fun.

To celebrate their two year anniversary last weekend, Millen brought on hockey great and former Detroit Red Wings star-turned-cannabis entrepreneur, Darren McCarty as a guest bud tender.

And it created some serious buzz.

Community Event Was a Huge Success

To uplift the community and bring some lightness to this otherwise heavy time, McCarty was on hand from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25 to sign autographs and promote his line of Darren McCarty “Pucker Up” pre-rolls.

Having credited cannabis with helping him overcome his struggles with alcoholism, McCarty entered the cannabis industry last year when he decided to partner with Michigan cannabis company Pincanna.

McCarty’s passion for cannabis and his celebrity status brought over 1000 people to the event – socially distanced, of course.

Millen couldn’t have been happier with the turnout and with getting to work with McCarty. “Honestly, one of the greatest guys in both the sports world and the cannabis industry!” said Millen. “He was so great and gracious to everybody who showed up to meet him.”

He also expressed gratitude for the patients and customers who have supported the Greenhouse over the past past two years. “We are grateful for you all!” he said.

Greenhouse’s Focus on Community Draws Girl Scouts

It may seem an unlikely duo, but if you wandered past the dispensary and saw Girl Scouts selling cookies out front this past weekend, you weren’t imagining things. An entrepreneurial troop decided it would be the perfect place to peddle their delicious treats.

“One of their mothers reached out to me last week and asked if they could do it and I said absolutely yes. This just shows you how far cannabis has come. Two years ago, the Girl Scouts would not let a Girl Scout troop stand outside of the store and sell their cookies,” said Millen.

When the young ladies and their mothers sold over 1,000 boxes, it inspired other troops to ask Millen for permission to do the same. Thus, this weekend, March 6th and 7th, Girl Scout cookie sales will resume.

“We need more spots like Greenhouse of Walled Lake who are allowing our girls to sell their cookies during this challenging and difficult time,” said one of the troop leaders.

Millen was only too happy to oblige.

“I have daughters of my own and I know how important this is to the girls and how much the public looks forward to enjoying the delectable mint, peanut butter, and other cookies.”

Let’s all raise a glass.. of milk.

We Applaud the Greenhouse’s Focus on Community

As cannabis marketing experts, we are always impressed when we encounter cannabis businesses that know the importance of giving back.

The Greenhouse’s focus on community over the past two years has been more than commendable. It’s what this industry is all about.

We are happy to congratulate the Greenhouse on their two-year anniversary!

While thankfulness never goes out of style, November is the month many of us fully embrace it during Thanksgiving.

Yet, for many families, Thanksgiving is just another day where getting by and surviving is the name of the game.

And it’s even worse this year.

None of this is lost on Jerry Millen. As a result, the Walled Lake dispensary owner is organizing a turkey giveaway.

Creating a Meaningful Thanksgiving

Jerry Millen of the Greenhouse in Walled Lake is no stranger to wondering where his next meal is coming from. Or IF there’ll be a meal at all. He comes from humble working-class beginnings where he learned the importance of families coming together to celebrate the holidays.

But we all know that everything is different this year.

With the pandemic raging on, the economy is strained and families are struggling to make ends meet. Plus, many don’t feel comfortable in gathering this year and potentially exploring vulnerable family members.

And that means that many families assume they’ll be going without a Thanksgiving turkey this year.

Millen isn’t having any of it.

Dispensary Owner Is Organizing a Turkey Giveaway

Millen got into the cannabis business with a strong determination to never forget the importance of giving back. And he consistently does just that.

During any given year under regular circumstances, Millen is pivotal in sponsoring events and fundraisers to raise money and provide opportunities for those struggling in the community.

And throughout the pandemic, the Greenhouse has been and continues to be a beacon for those needing both medical and recreational marijuana. Ensuring that patients and consumers didn’t have to go without cannabis during this challenging time was at the top of Millen’s list.

Now, he’s making sure that at least 500 families who have hit upon hard times will still be able to enjoy Thanksgiving with a delicious and robust turkey – at absolutely no cost.

“So many families are dealing with financial hardships due to the Covid-19 pandemic and other factors and I want to assist them so they can have a meaningful Thanksgiving,” says Millen. “I am proud that the Greenhouse of Walled Lake can step up and meet this challenge so our friends, neighbors, and customers can enjoy the holiday.”

Are You Eligible?

If you feel that a Thanksgiving turkey is not in the cards for you this year, all you have to do to be eligible to get a free turkey is to go to greenhousemi.com or call Greenhouse of Walled Lake at 1-833-MI Green (644-7336) to reserve one.

In addition, Millen is giving away another 100 turkeys to Hospitality House of Commerce Township – who will then distribute them to needy families in the area.

Once you’ve reserved your turkey, the big giveaway will take place on Thursday, November 19th, between noon and 6:00pm at Greenhouse of Walled Lake, located at 103 East Walled Lake Drive.

And be sure to stay tuned to all the happenings at the Greenhouse through the holiday season, as they will soon be announcing the “Greenhouse of Walled Lake Adopt 10 Families for Christmas Program.” Millen will be donating $1,000 to each of ten eligible families.

It’s sure to make all the difference for these families this coming December.

The Cannabis Industry Just Keeps Giving Back

When we decided to get into the business of cannabis marketing and public relations, we were drawn to altruism regularly demonstrated by this industry.

So the fact that a dispensary owner is organizing a turkey giveaway to provide a meaningful experience for needy families comes as no surprise. And we’re truly thankful.

If you don’t live in Walled Lake, you may have never heard of the Banks-Dolbeer-Bradley Foster Farm House.

But the people who live in this small community know the important historical significance of the structure.

Jerry Millen of the Greenhouse of Walled Lake is no exception.

The Story of the Banks-Dolbeer-Bradley Foster Farm House

The historical home in Walled Lake was a last stop on the Underground Railroad as escaped slaves made their way toward freedom.

Walled Lake Mayor, Linda Ackley, recalls listening to her father speak of the farm house. He was a Civil War Historian and would share with her tales about how slaves would stop there overnight. There was an old shed where the family would provide food, clothing, and money to help them travel to their next location – all at great risk to themselves.

Over the years, the structure fell into neglect. While in the mid-1990s the City Council decided to restore it, there just weren’t enough funds.

Finally, they decided to take on the project themselves. Members of the council and other interested citizens of Walled Lake have spent countless Saturdays and Sundays working to restore the structure.

“This is part of our history of helping leave any area of enslavement to freedom, it’s that road that every individual needs to understand,” says City Councilman John Owsinek. “I would love to be able to leave this planet, knowing that the farmhouse is finally open for business, with a certificate of occupancy.”

The Greenhouse of Walled Lake Kicks in to Help

Always involved with the community, and grateful to do business in such a charitable city, Jerry Millen, owner of the Greenhouse, decided to rally to keep this important part of history alive in Walled Lake.

“I’ve heard the history of the house and I said, ‘this is something important’,” says Millen. “This needs to be talked about and people need to know about this place and understand what it meant.” Both then, and today.

So he donated $10,000 to restart the renovation once and for all. He hopes that new awareness of the project will inspire other businesses and even restoration companies to step up and help in this effort.

“It is important that we never forget that every life has meaning,” says Owsinek. “And there is no such thing as a person who is beholden to someone else, other than themselves and their creator.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Want to Help?

If you would like to get involved with this restoration project, the Walled Lake City Council and Jerry Millen of the Greenhouse of Walled Lake would happily welcome your assistance!

Ah, Mother’s Day is coming.

But with everyone still in lockdown because of the coronavirus, what’s a loving family to do to celebrate mom?

You can’t take her out to her favorite restaurant. You may even be social distancing from her for safety reasons.

So why not brighten her special day with a Mother’s Day Marijuana Quarantine Kit?

More Than Just Flowers and Chocolate

The Mother’s Day Marijuana Quarantine Kit is the brainchild of Jerry Millen, owner of the Greenhouse in Walled Lake.

“These are such difficult times,” says Millen. “And knowing this year that dads and children can’t take mom out for her big day, I decided to make available a one-stop shopping gift for our loving mothers.”

You can forget about floral delivery this year. And nobody wants to don all their safety apparel and head to the grocery store to pick through chocolates or settle for sloppy seconds in the floral department.

With curbside pickup at the dispensary, you can get everything you need in this single kit without having to step foot into a store.

What Is in the Mother’s Day Marijuana Quarantine Kit?

We’re glad you asked.

This special quarantine kit has something for every mom who appreciates cannabis.

If you’ve always given your mom candy and chocolates for Mother’s Day, she won’t be disappointed to find delicious cannabis-infused caramels and de-stressing gummies in the kit. Plus, there’s the bonus of Godiva Chocolates (not infused) to satisfy the need to offer more traditional chocolate.

As for flowers, how about marijuana flower this year? It may not be a gorgeous bouquet to decorate the dining room, but this flower is likely to provide its own form of mood enhancement for mom. And it may just last longer than a dozen roses. (This depends on your mom, of course.)

Along the with flowers, chocolate, and candy, the kit also includes cannabis infused bath bombs to give her the ultimate in relaxation after a stressful couple of months.

And finally, there is hand sanitizer, socks, and a special Mother’s Day face mask – to keep her safe. It’s the ultimate way to show how much you care.

How Can You Get a Kit?

The Mother’s Day Marijuana Quarantine Kit is only $75, is available in LIMITED SUPPLY, and needs to be ordered in advance of pickup. Simply click here to order one now.

If ordering off the internet isn’t exactly your jam, that’s okay. You can also place an order by calling (248) 956-6181.

Give your mom the gift of peace and relaxation this Mother’s Day, while also keeping her safe. It’s the ultimate gift for these times.

Jerry Millen has been busy these days.

You may be familiar with Millen having read about his latest adventures in our previous blog posts.

Or maybe you’re in the Walled Lake area and know him as the guy who’s making a difference in the community.

Whatever the case, you can add “making recreational marijuana in Oakland County available on March 14th” to his vast list of accomplishments.

Millen’s establishment, the Greenhouse in Walled Lake, will be the only place dispensing it.

Recreational Marijuana in Oakland County at the Greenhouse

Starting March 14th, you’ll be able to legally buy recreational marijuana in Oakland County exclusively at the Greenhouse in Walled Lake.

Millen is no stranger to firsts.

The Greenhouse was the first dispensary to legally operate in Oakland County when it opened its doors in February of 2019.

So he was exhibiting some pretty proud father energy when he announced that recreational marijuana flower, edibles, tinctures, and oils will be readily available on the day before the Ides of March. (Again, that’s the 14th.)

And the father metaphor is rather apropos, considering the fact that Millen is going to need to expand the Greenhouse family to accommodate this additional side of the business.

The Greenhouse Is Hiring!

Millen is looking to hire at least 24 new employees to the Greenhouse staff.

This includes managers and budtenders.

The annual salary for managers is $50,000, and budtenders can expect to make up to $22.00 per hour.

Interested applicants can apply by sending their resumes and/or cover letters to info@greenhousemi.com.

Come and Celebrate Recreational Marijuana in Oakland County

Millen will get the party started by hosting an all-day event on Saturday March 14th from 9am-9pm at the dispensary.

More than a dozen vendors will be on-hand to educate and offer their expertise on best options for personal use. This includes Platinum Vape, Kushy Punch, Green Dr. CBD, and many other growers, processors, and edibles makers.

But wait, there’s more. Millen is really pulling out all the stops for this event.

He’s erecting a 4,000 square foot tent in addition to the actual dispensary. A doughnut truck and coffee truck will be on premises and plan to give away their products all day.

There will also be a daytime fireworks exhibition and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9am. The mayor, the Walled Lake City Council, and all the other cool cats will be there.

So should you.

“We have worked long and hard leading up to this important day,” says Millen. “I am proud to the be owner of the first dispensary in the tri-county area to bring recreational marijuana to our city, county, and region.”

And we’re proud of you, Jerry.

Be Part of the Action on March 14th in Walled Lake

Recreational marijuana in Oakland County is finally going to be a thing!

So come on out to the Greenhouse on March 14th starting at 9am to celebrate. They’re located at 103 E. Walled Lake Drive in Walled Lake, Michigan.

We’ll see you there.

As the first licensed medical marijuana dispensary in Oakland County, the Greenhouse of Walled Lake has long been dedicated to giving back to the community.

That’s why Greenhouse owner Jerry Millen is sponsoring a fundraiser on Valentine’s Day – as well as a promotion in the days leading up to the fundraiser.

The promotion will begin tomorrow, February 5th, and run through Friday, February 14th to help support a very special Walled Lake non-profit organization called The Drew Crew.

Drew Clayborn’s Story

The namesake for The Drew Crew is Walled Lake resident, Drew Clayborn.

In 2010, Drew was a fun-loving and active high school student. He played football and basketball, was a member of the marching band and the guitar club, and was getting ready to be in a school play.

It was during a rehearsal for that play that the 15-year-old Drew’s life changed forever. When the play’s director asked if any students had a unique talent they’d like share for the musical, Drew said he could perform a backflip.

Although he was still in the process of learning how to do this, he felt confident he could do it.

In a single life-shattering moment, Drew attempted the flip but landed wrong. He broke his neck – leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down.

He and his family were suddenly in need of a lot of help and didn’t know where to turn.

The Drew Crew

After Drew suffered his spinal cord injury, there was a huge outpouring of love and support from the community. They helped Drew and his family in ways the family never dreamed possible.

And thus, the The Drew Crew was formed.

The Drew Crew is a now a non-profit organization focused on helping individuals and families that have suffered a spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury.

Their mission is to demonstrate that those who have suffered a catastrophic injury such as this can still live a complete and fulfilling life. They offer mentorship and guidance to individuals and families, as well as help to facilitate ways to raise money for specific needs such as acquiring necessary equipment.

Through his own inner-drive, the overwhelming devotion of his family, and the love and financial support of the fundraising efforts by “The Drew Crew,” Drew’s dreams continue to be fulfilled while new goals are constantly being set.

Now a mathematical biology major at the University of Michigan, the 25-year-old Drew is approaching graduation and in pursuit of a master’s degree.

Show the Love This Valentine’s Day

Upon learning about Drew and this amazing organization, Walled Lake Mayor Linda Ackley asked Millen if he would be open to doing a fundraiser at the Greenhouse.

Millen gave an emphatic yes!

So the Greenhouse has had coffee mugs, key chains, cards, and stuffed bears made up with catchy and even humorous phrases that will stimulate sales. All proceeds will go to The Drew Crew group.

Kushy Punch, a manufacturer of gummies, has also donated $2,000 worth of products to be raffled off as part of this promotion.

Mayor Ackley stated, “Drew is a wonderful young man and we are proud to support one of Walled Lake’s own.” Both the major and Drew will be at the Greenhouse on Valentine’s Day from 3 PM to 7 PM.

The Greenhouse of Walled Lake is located at 103 East Walled Lake Drive. And you don’t need to use cannabis products to support this important initiative. So come on out!
