Did you know that the Greenhouse of Walled Lake is Oakland County’s first fully licensed medical and recreational marijuana dispensary? They’re experts in ensuring that customers and patients receive the utmost guidance when it comes to selecting the right products.

Above and beyond that amazing distinction, owner Jerry Millen has always placed a premium on giving back to the community. As such, a visit to the dispensary means you’re bound to encounter an example of this. Especially over the next many weekends.

That’s because for the second year in a row, the Greenhouse and the Girl Scouts are teaming up.

The Greenhouse and the Girl Scouts – Classic Combo

If you went by the dispensary this past weekend and saw more green than usual, it was just the Girl Scouts selling cookies. And no, you weren’t imagining things. You may have even been expecting it.

Last year, when an entrepreneurial troop decided the Greenhouse would be the perfect place to peddle their delicious treats, Millen couldn’t have agreed more. So he made it happen.

When the troop sold over 1,000 boxes, it inspired other troops to ask Millen for permission to do the same. And a new tradition began.

“I have daughters of my own and I know the importance of this yearly event and how much the public looks forward to enjoying the one-of-a-kind Thin Mint, Peanut Butter, and many other cookies,” said Millen.

Carrying on the Tradition

If you didn’t make it in this past weekend, no worries. Numerous Oakland County Girl Scout troops are scheduled to sell their sweet treats each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all the way through April 24th! These opportunities are a true godsend for the Girl Scouts who also do so much to give back to the community with the funds they raise from their cookies sales.

And you can expect to find Millen there graciously assisting the troops in setting up their cookie stands. The Girl Scouts will be selling their legendary cookies from 4pm-7pm on Fridays, 1pm-5pm on Saturdays and 11am until dark (time will extend later each week) on Sundays.

“We need others like Greenhouse of Walled Lake to allow us to sell our cookies in this fun and supportive atmosphere,” said one local Girl Scout troop leader. And Girl Scout troops can still reserve their spot by visiting greenhousemi.com/girlscouts.

The Greenhouse is located at 103 East Walled Lake Drive in Walled Lake, Michigan. They are open everyday from 9am to 9pm.

We Raise a Glass (of Milk) for the Greenhouse

As cannabis marketing experts, we know it’s crucial that cannabis businesses give back.

The Greenhouse’s focus on community over the past three years has been beyond commendable. It’s what this industry is all about. And we applaud them.

The Greenhouse of Walled Lake was Oakland County’s first fully licensed medical and recreational marijuana dispensary.

The Greenhouse’s focus on community has always been a driving force for owner Jerry Millen. And he and his staff are dedicated to ensuring that customers and patients receive the utmost guidance when it comes to selecting the right products for them whether for a health condition, relaxation, or just plain fun.

To celebrate their two year anniversary last weekend, Millen brought on hockey great and former Detroit Red Wings star-turned-cannabis entrepreneur, Darren McCarty as a guest bud tender.

And it created some serious buzz.

Community Event Was a Huge Success

To uplift the community and bring some lightness to this otherwise heavy time, McCarty was on hand from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25 to sign autographs and promote his line of Darren McCarty “Pucker Up” pre-rolls.

Having credited cannabis with helping him overcome his struggles with alcoholism, McCarty entered the cannabis industry last year when he decided to partner with Michigan cannabis company Pincanna.

McCarty’s passion for cannabis and his celebrity status brought over 1000 people to the event – socially distanced, of course.

Millen couldn’t have been happier with the turnout and with getting to work with McCarty. “Honestly, one of the greatest guys in both the sports world and the cannabis industry!” said Millen. “He was so great and gracious to everybody who showed up to meet him.”

He also expressed gratitude for the patients and customers who have supported the Greenhouse over the past past two years. “We are grateful for you all!” he said.

Greenhouse’s Focus on Community Draws Girl Scouts

It may seem an unlikely duo, but if you wandered past the dispensary and saw Girl Scouts selling cookies out front this past weekend, you weren’t imagining things. An entrepreneurial troop decided it would be the perfect place to peddle their delicious treats.

“One of their mothers reached out to me last week and asked if they could do it and I said absolutely yes. This just shows you how far cannabis has come. Two years ago, the Girl Scouts would not let a Girl Scout troop stand outside of the store and sell their cookies,” said Millen.

When the young ladies and their mothers sold over 1,000 boxes, it inspired other troops to ask Millen for permission to do the same. Thus, this weekend, March 6th and 7th, Girl Scout cookie sales will resume.

“We need more spots like Greenhouse of Walled Lake who are allowing our girls to sell their cookies during this challenging and difficult time,” said one of the troop leaders.

Millen was only too happy to oblige.

“I have daughters of my own and I know how important this is to the girls and how much the public looks forward to enjoying the delectable mint, peanut butter, and other cookies.”

Let’s all raise a glass.. of milk.

We Applaud the Greenhouse’s Focus on Community

As cannabis marketing experts, we are always impressed when we encounter cannabis businesses that know the importance of giving back.

The Greenhouse’s focus on community over the past two years has been more than commendable. It’s what this industry is all about.

We are happy to congratulate the Greenhouse on their two-year anniversary!

At Grow Cannabis Marketing, we believe in the importance of giving back. So we love to highlight folks in the cannabis community who are making a difference.

Jerry Millen, founder and owner of the Greenhouse of Walled Lake, is one of those folks. And if you’re a regular visitor to our blog, you probably already know all about him.

Millen is an exemplary example of what it means to give back. He regularly sponsors events that support communities in need – including giving away turkeys at Thanksgiving and pulling together with other community leaders to raise $10,000 for presents for less fortunate families over the holidays.

His most recent endeavor is simply called Pot for Shots.

What Is Pot for Shots?

We know the stance on vaccinations right now is all over the charts.

Some people don’t believe in vaccines, while others are still on the fence. We get that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Millen is a believer in the vaccine though. And as an incentive to encourage as many people as possible to get one, he has collaborated with Ubaked Cannabis Company in Burton, Michigan, to announce their newest promotion.

The “Pot for Shots” COVID-19 vaccination promotion will begin Friday January 22nd, and run all the way through Sunday, February 28th. It’s Millen’s way of recognizing those who have opted to receive the vaccine to help fight back against this deadly virus.

How the Promotion Works

It really couldn’t be any simpler.

“Our goal is to raise awareness of the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccination as we as a community battle this horrible pandemic,” says Millen. “Pot for Shots is our way of showing our commitment in assisting the community get back to normality.”

Here’s how it works.

Once the distribution of the vaccine no longer resembles a carnival freak show and you’re able to get a shot, head on over to the Greenhouse with written proof that you received a Covid-19 vaccine.

At that point, you will be handed a FREE pre-rolled joint. That’s it. You’re done. You don’t even have to buy anything! Of course, with such a huge array of amazing product, you may want to.

Whatever the case, if you’re leaning toward getting the vaccine but haven’t quite committed, this could be just the push you need. As Millen says, “We hope this is the beginning of the end of this insidious pandemic.”

We’ll raise a glass to that.

Are You in the Cannabis Know?

After such a long stretch of darkness, it’s refreshing to see all the positivity coming out of the cannabis community right now. So keep checking back with our blog for more great news and articles.

And if you have a cannabis business and would like this sort of publicity, please reach out to us. Our cannabis marketing and public relations experts will put you in the spotlight.

Jerry Millen has been busy these days.

You may be familiar with Millen having read about his latest adventures in our previous blog posts.

Or maybe you’re in the Walled Lake area and know him as the guy who’s making a difference in the community.

Whatever the case, you can add “making recreational marijuana in Oakland County available on March 14th” to his vast list of accomplishments.

Millen’s establishment, the Greenhouse in Walled Lake, will be the only place dispensing it.

Recreational Marijuana in Oakland County at the Greenhouse

Starting March 14th, you’ll be able to legally buy recreational marijuana in Oakland County exclusively at the Greenhouse in Walled Lake.

Millen is no stranger to firsts.

The Greenhouse was the first dispensary to legally operate in Oakland County when it opened its doors in February of 2019.

So he was exhibiting some pretty proud father energy when he announced that recreational marijuana flower, edibles, tinctures, and oils will be readily available on the day before the Ides of March. (Again, that’s the 14th.)

And the father metaphor is rather apropos, considering the fact that Millen is going to need to expand the Greenhouse family to accommodate this additional side of the business.

The Greenhouse Is Hiring!

Millen is looking to hire at least 24 new employees to the Greenhouse staff.

This includes managers and budtenders.

The annual salary for managers is $50,000, and budtenders can expect to make up to $22.00 per hour.

Interested applicants can apply by sending their resumes and/or cover letters to info@greenhousemi.com.

Come and Celebrate Recreational Marijuana in Oakland County

Millen will get the party started by hosting an all-day event on Saturday March 14th from 9am-9pm at the dispensary.

More than a dozen vendors will be on-hand to educate and offer their expertise on best options for personal use. This includes Platinum Vape, Kushy Punch, Green Dr. CBD, and many other growers, processors, and edibles makers.

But wait, there’s more. Millen is really pulling out all the stops for this event.

He’s erecting a 4,000 square foot tent in addition to the actual dispensary. A doughnut truck and coffee truck will be on premises and plan to give away their products all day.

There will also be a daytime fireworks exhibition and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9am. The mayor, the Walled Lake City Council, and all the other cool cats will be there.

So should you.

“We have worked long and hard leading up to this important day,” says Millen. “I am proud to the be owner of the first dispensary in the tri-county area to bring recreational marijuana to our city, county, and region.”

And we’re proud of you, Jerry.

Be Part of the Action on March 14th in Walled Lake

Recreational marijuana in Oakland County is finally going to be a thing!

So come on out to the Greenhouse on March 14th starting at 9am to celebrate. They’re located at 103 E. Walled Lake Drive in Walled Lake, Michigan.

We’ll see you there.

And for more great news and information about what’s happening in the cannabis world, keep checking back with our blog!

Here’s a joke.

What do you call it when one state-sanctioned lab determines a product to be clean, but another finds that same product contaminated?

Seriously frustrating. And frankly, not much of a joke.

But that’s exactly what’s happening.

And this inconsistent testing of products in Michigan is a total buzz kill for dispensaries.

The Greenhouse Pulled All Vape Cartridges

That was earlier this winter.

Since that time, the Greenhouse in Walled Lake got the go ahead from a state-sanctioned lab in Ann Arbor to put those cartridges back on the shelves since they tested clean.

But last Friday, the Marijuana Regulatory Agency told owner Jerry Millen and his team to take some of them down. Again.

Why?

Another Lab Detected Vitamin E Acetate

Y’all remember vitamin E acetate, right? The nasty additive responsible for the lung injuries during VapeGate 2019?

That’s the stuff.

Millen has ABSOLUTELY no issue pulling potentially dangerous product from the shelves. After all, he’s in this business to help people.

“I’m not going to argue with the state or anybody that tells me something might be dirty,” he said. “I’ll pull it off, I have no problem.

What he does have a problem with is how it’s being handled.

Inconsistent Testing Gave Different Results on Same Batch

The Motor City High cartridges under scrutiny received a clean bill of health, as it were, from PSI Labs. Millen has the documents that state no vitamin E acetate was detected.

But cartridges from this same batch – carried at another dispensary – showed levels of the additive when tested at a different lab.

So now, after being told it was okay to put them back on the shelves, he has to pull the 500 of this brand he still has in stock.

“You told me to put them back on my shelf, which I did. At your urging, they’re back on my shelf,” he said with frustration to the MRA. “Now you’re telling me to take them off even though they passed testing because carts failed from another lab?”

Dispensaries Pay the Price

Millen feels that his business – and others – are paying the price for this lack of consistency in testing.

The state’s regulatory arm, LARA, states that inconsistencies in testing can occur when products come from a caregiver. They say they’re just playing it safe.

“We understand that businesses need to look out for their bottom line, but in situations like this — when marijuana product is brought into the regulated market via a caregiver — we must always err on the side of caution and put the safety of patients first,” said LARA spokesperson David Harns.

“Vitamin E acetate is a public safety risk,” he continued, “and we can’t take any chance that these cartridges were cut with that prohibited product.”

So What Is the Solution?

Obviously, if there’s any chance that vitamin E acetate is in a cartridge, the consumer needs to be protected.

Millen and dispensary owners agree with this wholeheartedly.

They’d just like to see consistency in the testing so it doesn’t keep cutting into their bottom line.

Millen believes that if the MRA is going to decide that one lab is more proficient in testing than another, then every vape cartridge in the state should be tested there.

Creating a clear standard that every product would be required to meet would reduce confusion and ensure that every consumer is protected.

That makes perfect sense to us.

Has Inconsistent Testing Negatively Impacted You?

Cannabis businesses face many obstacles.

But you don’t have to let cannabis marketing be one of them.

We may not be able to do anything about inconsistent testing. But we CAN help you find a cannabis marketing strategy to grow your business.

So contact us today. And you can cross off marketing from your list of concerns.
